Coming off their 97-65 2008 AL Championship season, the Rays franchise kept the team pretty much intact and attempted to delve further into the MLB Playoffs. The team failed to advance past last season, instead compiling an 85-78 record good for third place in the AL East.
The Rays unveiled new jerseys, their third to be used in the 2009 season. Other changes of the franchise included the Quality Control Coach Tim Bogar was hired on by the Boston Red Sox as their First Base Coach. He was replaced by Todd Greene.
